Portugal’s largest private vineyard owner, Jose Maria da Fonseca, has taken on Moreno Wine Importers as its new UK agent.
Known for its extensive vineyards in Setubal and for its Periquita brand, Fonseca was founded in 1834, claiming to be Portugal’s oldest producer of table wine, and has been family-owned ever since.
The company has a total of 700 hectares of vineyards, mostly concentrated on the Setubal peninsula but also in the Alentejo region.
JM da Fonseca produces a wide range of wines, including the Periquita brand, and is also well-known for its production of Setubal Moscatel.
Moreno, which specialises in wines from the Iberian peninsula, had been looking for a Portuguese winery for some time, and hopes to restore the company’s fortunes in the UK.
