The Vineyard at Stockcross has been named as the winner in the restaurant category of Wines of Germany’s first UK Riesling Week, held earlier this summer.
The restaurant, along with winning retailer Corks Out, receives £1,000 towards new German wine listings, and a member of its wine service staff will get a place on Wines of Germany’s Sommelier Spring Class trip to Germany next April.
Meanwhile, runners-up Inverarity 121 and Lutyens will receive £500 towards new listings.
The Vineyard at Stockcross won praise from the judges for its ‘extensive’ Riesling Week offers, including 12 wines categorised by style, while chef sommelier Yohann Jousselin MS created a food and wine matching menu, and held tastings throughout Riesling Week, from 23-31 July.
The promotion with retailers and restaurants around the UK originated in the US in 2005, aiming to highlight the charms of the Riesling grape to consumers.
‘It’s been fantastic to see such esteemed restaurants and retailers getting behind the initiative and even better to hear the positive feedback they’ve been getting from their customers, who for too long have shied away from German wines,’ said Nicky Forrest, Wines of Germany UK managing director.
‘We are now planning to build on the success of this year’s promotion to extend the reach of the campaign next year.’
