Schenk Wine Group has announced the purchase a new winery in Spain in a bid to further strengthen its Spanish operations.

The group will take ownership of Finca Casa Lo Alto, a 160ha estate based in Utiel-Requena at the end of this month.

One of the older estates in the area, Finca Casa Lo Alto currently grows Bobal, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Chardonnay.

Proving itself to be quite the force, Schenk Wine Group invested in Italy last year with its purchase of the Montepulciano producer Azienda Agricola Lunadoro. The group also owns Henri Badoux (Aigle les Murailles) in Switzerland, Bodegas Murviedro (Spain), Château d’Aigueville in the Rhône Valley, Prosecco winery Bacio della Luna and has part ownership of Chianti producer Castello di Querceto.

Commenting on its most recent purchase, Craig Durham, managing director of Buckingham Schenk said: ‘We are delighted with this latest addition to the Schenk Wine Group and we are confident it will give us greater variety and quality within the group’s Spanish range. There are some exciting plans for this estate and we look forward to announcing more about this in due course.’
