Following months of negotiation Spain’s Peralada Group, owner of Castillo Perelada in Empordà and Cims de Porrera in Priorat, has purchased the Chivite Group, including the Bodegas Gran Feudo (DO Navarra) and Viña Salceda (DOCa Rioja).

The move has allowed Peralada to re-enforce its position in Rioja, where it already owns Fin de Siglo, and has helped launch its presence in Navarre, Ribera del Duero and Rueda.

This is not the first acquisition made by the company this financial year, having previously purchased the organic Cava Privat and Oliver Conti (DO Empordà).

‘The Chivite family’s quality wine making tradition, spanning more than three centuries, has afforded the brand significant reach at an international level, fitting perfectly with our vision of the wine business,’ said Javier Suqué, chairman of the Peralada Group.

‘We are committed to learning and integrating the historic values of Chivite and, consequently, Peralada is counting on Julián Chivite, one of the most renowned people in the Spanish wine sector, to continue on as chairman and to help lead this new project.’

The consolidated turnover of the group will now surpass €60m due to the acquisition, and is set to establish more firmly the family company’s presence in nearly 100 markets worldwide. But Peralada isn’t stopping there, a new winery in Empordà, Catalonia, is currently under construction. The new sustainable winery is set to have the capacity for 2.8m kg of grapes, and is due to be built by 2019.
