Here to spice up your rosé offering is Spanish cava house Freixenet, releasing its first ever Italian, yes Italian, sparkling rosé. The launch comes after the producer’s move into prosecco last year, following research suggesting prosecco is fast becoming the nation’s favourite fizz.
A blend of Glera and Pinot Noir grapes, the new bubbly offers fragrant flavours of summer fruits and is light and refreshing. On the nose, those summer fruit flavours are apparant, with floral notes of white blossom and elderflower.
On the palate, lovely and dry with crisp acidity, crunchy apple flavours lead to those same red summer fruits of raspberries, cherries and strawberries. A long finish and creamy, not-too-fizzy mousse add to this Italian rosé’s appeal.
While the wine tastes great alone, and no doubt it will be drunk that way first and foremost, we’d love to try it will fresh fish dishes, or served alongside a creamy, sweet dessert.
