Turner 'back to roots' with beer and food project

Brian Turner Amber Ale

Brian Turner, one of the celebrity chefs on BBC’s Ready Steady Cook, is to team up with Derbyshire brewer Thornbridge to produce four beers all designed to pair with food.

Three of the beers will be launched over the next 12 months, but the first, Brian Turner’s Amber Ale (4.2% abv), was recently launched at that beer mecca, The White Horse in London’s Parson’s Green, where Turner was joined by Antonio Carluccio, Ainsley Harriott and brewer Kelly Ryan.

The ale has flavours of honey, caramel and a dry, rye toast finish.
Steak, ale and caramelised onion pie is Turner’s perfect food match recommendation, with the chef seeing the project as being a return to his roots.

‘Growing up in West Yorkshire, my father and family were committed beer drinkers. But as a young chef it was critical that I studied wine as the complement to foods,’ he explained.
His renewed interest in beer was sparked when asked to cook for the annual British Guild of Beer Writers’ Dinner in 2006 and 2007.
