Dom Pérignon releases two vintage rosés

While the prestige cuvée sector has suffered most in recession, Moët & Chandon hopes to buck this trend with the launch of the new 2000 vintage of its most expensive champagne –Dom Pérignon rosé. Additional hype is being added to the occasion thanks to the dual-launch of the first ever Oenotheque Dom Pérignon rosé from the celebrated 1990 vintage.
Chief winemaker Richard Geoffroy reiterated at the launch that DP rosé was, like its white counterpart, all about blending. ‘When you put the top crus together the result is always superior [to just the component parts] making the wines more complete and more complex.’
He also feels that rosé champagne should be recognisably different in style, not just a pink-tinged version of its white counterpart. Therefore Dom Pérignon rosé is much more about Pinot Noir, and Burgundy notes are apparent in the cherry-like fruit, warmth and generosity of the cuvée. The red wine element, sourced in Bouzy, is never less than 20% of the blend. The result is very Burgundian.
