Parker picks a pot of Ports
The 2007 Port vintage has been boosted by a strong endorsement from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, which gave 40 out of 59 wines a score of 90-plus.
Top of the shop was Taylor’s Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha with a score of 98, followed by Graham’s (97), Taylor’s core vintage (95), and Fonseca, Dow and Quinta do Noval (all 94).
Parker’s Port specialist, Jay Miller, conducted the tasting and said there was no doubt that 2007 was a ‘high-class’ vintage.
‘Even the least of these wines has six to eight years of aging potential, and nearly all of them will be drinking well at age 20,’ he wrote.
‘Whether they will rival the wines of 1994, 1985, 1977, 1970 and 1963 remains to be seen, but the chances seem excellent.’
