The Tommyfield launch

Patches of exposed original brickwork, Chesterfield armchairs and plenty of pictures of old Naval ships set the scene for The Tommyfield, a best-of-British type pub officially launching tonight on the old site of the Victorian Oldham market in Kennington, from which it takes its name.
Savour some award-winning English wines – including Nyetimber Classic Cuvee, 2005 and Chapel Down Bacchus Reserve 2008 – beneath a suspended steel wine cage, and nurse your pint of British brewed ale at the rather masculine mahogany bar inlaid with iron. Beers on offer include Wandle from Battersea, Doom Bar from Cornwall and Timothy Taylor’s Landlord from Yorkshire.
Executive chef Massimo Tebaldi is heading up the Victorian chophouse-esque kitchen and serving sensitively sourced cuts of British meat cooked any which way they’re required. Or for snacking alongside drinking there’s the rather brilliant looking British meat board: a robust selection of pork terrine, sausage roll, Scotch egg, Caerphilly cheese, onion chutney and homemade piccalilli. Other constantly updated menu sections include pie and mash options, and ‘blackboard’ fish – fish caught exclusively on English day boats. Naturally the Sunday roast will also be getting the attention it deserves.
Previously called The White Hart, The Tommyfield is the latest venue from Tom Peake, Mark Reynolds and Nick Fox of Renaissance Pubs.
