Calf’s Head serves up full English

Lancashire pub The Calf’s Head claims to have created the country’s only English wine-only list – and has made a commercial success of it.
When the Ribble Valley hostelry initiated its 16-bin list in April, only one in ten of its customers were happy to try the new wines – but now that figure has risen to more than 50%.
Coinciding with English Wine Week at the end of May, the pub also offered customers the chance to try its range of white, red, sparkling and rosé wines before buying them. The concept began after Calf’s Head owner Chris Medley travelled around the country in search of the best range of English wines he could find.
