Great Western Wine snapped up

Enotria has acquired the Bath-based wine supplier for an undisclosed sum.
Great Western Wine (GWW) managing director Philip Addis, who founded the on-trade-focused company 27 years ago, has joined the Enotria board as a result of the deal. As sales director, he will now manage the GWW sales team and all Enotria sales staff working outside London.
A detailed review of the merged companies’ wine lists is to be carried out, but an Enotria spokesperson told Imbibe that they expected to offer 'many wines from the current Great Western Wine Company portfolio'.
'Enotria shares with Great Western Wine Company a passion for small, family-owned domaines,' the spokesperson added. 'We will look in great detail at the entire range to ensure that the future range from the new business offers the best of both existing lists.'
All GWW staff will transfer to Enotria, but the company plans to merge head office and logistics functions, and said it could not rule out redundancies.
GWW’s shop and other facilities in Bath will remain under the new business, Enotria said.
Enotria chief executive Alison Levett said she was 'absolutely thrilled' to acquire 'such a high-quality business'.
Philip Addis added: 'Philosophically, Enotria are surprisingly similar to us and together I believe we will be able to assemble the very finest and most interesting range of wines available in the UK.'
Highlights of the combined portfolios will be available to taste at Enotria’s roadshow tasting at Bordeaux Quay restaurant in Bristol on 28 September.
