The death of decanting?

sediment wine bottle

A 'revolutionary' new bottle designed by Basque restaurateur Martín Berasategui reportedly stops wine sediment from being poured into the glass.

Spanish company Estalpackaging is marketing the distinctively shaped new bottle, which has already won an award in the 'Oscar de l'Emballage' in Paris.

The bottle, called Martín Berasategui System, has a kind of 'false bottom' at its base, which creates a vacuum to stop sediment from passing out of the bottle with the wine as it is poured.

Berasategui, whose eponymous restaurant at Gipuzkoa has three Michelin stars, has also previously designed a special wine rack which allows bottles to be transported in an inclined position.

The new bottle will be aimed in particular at wines designed for long aging.
