First it was collagen drinks and then feet-cleaning fish, and now Asia brings us the latest odd-ball craze: bubble tea.
This unusual drink started life on a stall in Taipei and has since spawned more than 8,000 bubble-tea shops round Taiwan. Bubble tea comprises a red, white or green tea served warm or cool, infused with fruit flavourings and a serving of chewy tapioca pearls sucked up through jumbo straws.
This strange concoction can now be enjoyed at the new Bubbleology in Soho’s Rupert St, which serves 13 varieties including lychee, kumquat and ginger, along with a milkshake-style version in flavours including coconut, taro and honeydew.
