On your marks...
The charity Galvin's Chance, founded by Chris Galvin is dedicated to help disadvantaged young people in London by offering training and opportunities in the hospitality industry.
Their biggest fundraising event is the annual Mayfair Park and Tower Race, now in its third year, in which a team of 120 complete a 4.5km run around Hyde Park’s Serpentine Lake before taking on all 28 flights of stairs at the London Hilton on Park Lane. The race will take place on Friday 8 July and begin at the unfamiliar hour of 8am, but with the incentive of a Pommery breakfast at the finish line – which conveniently enough doubles as Michelin-starred restaurant Galvin at Windows.
Already signed up are legendary chef Michel Roux Jr, ex-England footballer Graeme le Saux, European Boxing Champion Clinton McKenzie and numerous other big-hitters from the food, drink and sporting worlds. Should you wish to join their number, a registration fee of £20 plus a commitment to raising a minimum of £250 in sponsorship is required. Alternatively, if you're feeling lucky you could opt to engage in the famous Pommery Duel, setting and betting on challenges with your fellow competitors after the race is run.
