Following its successful US launch in 2008, Crystal Head Vodka – a collaboration between Elwood Blues himself (also known as Dan Aykroyd) and fine artist John Alexander – has finally reached UK shores and is to be distributed by Inspirit Brands.

The distinctive bottle is a tribute to the same legend that lies behind Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and is a a result of Aykroyd's immersion in all things 'spiritual'. The skulls are seen as symbols of life, and to possess impressive healing powers. No doubt this will be extremely helpful in fending off hangovers.

The brand positions itself at the premium end of the market, with the hope that the unique packaging and Hollywood pedigree will pique consumer interest. Uplighters can also provided with Crystal Head, so that the bottle can be illuminated and showcased on the backbar in all its glory, accompanied by branded ice buckets and skull-shaped shot glasses. The vodka itself is organically produced, crisp and sweet, with vanilla notes followed by a kick of heat on the finish, and was recently awarded a double gold at the San Francisco World Spirits competition. It is produced using glacial aquifer water from Newfoundland, Canada and is quadruple-distilled through ancient 'Herkimer Diamond' quartz crystals – seen as possessing similar spiritual qualities to the skulls themselves.
