Eat, drink and love sherry
Since José Pizarro (he of Brindisa fame) opened his bijoux tapas bar José on Bermondsey Street, south London this summer it has been firm favourite with the Imbibe team. This is mainly because, not only is it a tapas bar, but a tapas and sherry bar. Needless to say, the food is fantastic, but so too is the sherry list: extensive, comprehensive; and as it was compiled in association with Jo Ahearne MW and Tim Atkin MW, also rather impressive.
We were therefore especially excited to hear news of Pizarro's next opening, set for October and just a few doors down from José. In contrast to the tiny neighbourhood bar this will be an 80-cover restaurant, and – adding the requisite dimension of alcoholic interest – will also be the setting for London's very first cava bar.
The Spanish sparkler has taken a bit of a battering in recent years as Prosecco's popularity rose and rose, so we can't wait to see whether Pizarro leads the charge in cava's sherry-esque reputation rehabilitation.
