Run, run as fast as you can...

Roux Sirieix Galvin

The third annual Mayfair Park and Tower Race was held on 8 July, at the ungodly hour of 8am in aid of Galvin’s Chance. The Pommerey-sponsored event saw 100 runners sprint 4 km around Hyde Park's Serpentine Lake before tackling the 475 stairs to the top of the London Park Lane Hilton.

The competitors, from the worlds of hospitality, sport and business were racing towards a more than usually plush finish-line: Galvin at Windows, where a Pommerey breakfast awaited them. The restaurant's own assistant manager, Emmeric Hurault emerged victorious, completing the gruelling challenge in under 19 minutes. Participants raised an incredible £20,000 in sponsorship – not a bad achievement before breakfast.

The money will be used by Galvin's Chance (founded by Chris Galvin and Fred Sirieix, chef de patron and general manager of Galvin at Windows) to put young Londoners from underprivileged backgrounds, through training and apprenticeships; with the end goal of a long and successful career in the hospitality industry.

Speaking at the event, Chris Galvin said: 'Working in restaurants, as I have now done for 33 years, has made me realise just what an inspirational sector this is and what a great opportunity we have to make a difference to young people's lives. The race follows on from that by helping people to help themselves, to learn and to be inspired. Every step taken on today's course is a step closer to helping someone who needs that second chance in life.'
