Uno, dos, tres
A trio of Spanish wineries has joined the books of Fields, Morris & Verdin, spanning the regions of Catalunya, Rioja and Ribera del Duero.
The importer has expanded its Spanish offering significantly with the new signings, including Rioja star López de Heredia – known for its Viña Tondonia wine.
The winery had been looking for new UK representation following the acquisition of previous importer Great Western Wine by Enotria, which created a clash with Enotria’s existing Rioja specialist Marqués de Riscal.
Family-owned Cillar de Silos produces just under 30,000 cases of wine a year from high-altitude vineyards (900m above sea level) around the town of Quintana del Pidio.
The Tempranillo specialist produces the eponymous Cillar de Silos wine, the intense Torresilo and the small-quantity La Viña de Amalio, which is only released in the best years.
Finally, Raventós i Blanc is a high-quality cava producer with a 90-hectare estate in the heart of cava country in Catalunya.
Family-owned since 1497, Raventos i Blanc focuses on traditional cava varieties, with about 80% of its vineyards made up of Xarel-lo, Parellada and Macabeu – although it also farms small amounts of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
