Richard Seale cleaned up at this year’s Golden Rum Barrel Awards, being named Rum Distiller of the Year, while his Foursquare Distillery was awarded Rum Distillery of the Year. His Doorly’s XO nabbed the Imbibe Boutique Rum Award, chosen by visitors to this year’s inaugural Boutique Rumfest.
Blender of the Year went to Diplomatico's Tito Cordero, with Best New White and Gold Rums going to Abuelo Centuria and Banks 5 Island, respectively. The Best New Rum Packaging Award went to Bacardi 1909.
Havana Club’s Meimi Sanchez was recognised as UK Rum Ambassador of the Year, with Santa Teresa’s Jim Wrigley and Bacardi’s David Cordoba sharing the equivalent international title.
Finally, two industry legends joined the new Pioneers Club - a hall of fame for the rum trade. The inductees were Joy Spence (Appleton Rum) and Ed Hamilton (Ministry of Rum).
The awards were held this last Saturday, on the evening of the first day of Rumfest at Olympia.
