The Association of Italian Sommeliers is set to host a wine course at the Novotel in Leeds, to give aspiring sommeliers a thorough training in their chosen field. The first of its kind in the north of England, the course is due to be held in association with Italian importer, Grossi Wines.
The programme is split into three levels, covering everything from the practicalities of working as a sommelier, to enology, tasting-technique, DOC, DOCG and IGT legislation and beer-production. The first stage commences on 9 January, with weekly, five-hour sessions and is given some major credibility by the backing of the UK Sommelier Association and the Worldwide Sommelier Association.
Carlo Grossi, founder of Grossi Wines commented, 'We are proud to be the sole wine partner in this exciting new venture, as we place a great deal of importance on education about Italian Wines. UK wine drinkers deserve to know more about the wonderful array of high-quality wines available: the establishment of an AIS course in Leeds is an extremely positive step in spreading the word.'
