Catching the wave

Harbour

Breweries continue to open at quite a pace, with this latest in North Cornwall. Harbour Brewing Co has been set up by Rhys Powell and Eddie Lofthouse who, in addition to beer, share an interest in surfing. The brewery itself will open on Friday 20 January.

The initial range will consist of an IPA, amber ale, light ale and a lager, all available in cask, keg and bottle. There are also plans to add a 'Harbour Special' small-batch range, with the inclusion of various ingredients.

Powell studied brewing at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, and has been working at nearby Sharp's Brewery. Lofthouse, meanwhile, has been running The Atlantic Hotel and Doom Bar in Cornwall, a family business. When it comes to the beer itself, Lofthouse speaks of inspiration from the US craft beer scene, UK breweries Kernel, Brewdog and Redemption, as well as Danish brewer Mikkeller.

While Harbour beers will initially be available in Cornwall, there are already plans to expand availability to London, despite the surf being considerably worse there.
