Kamm & Sons

Kammerling's changed its name to 'Kamm & Sons - Ginseng Spirit' today, less than a year since its launch.

The threat of a legal dispute with similar-sounding German liqueur brand Kuemmerling may have prompted the move, but founder Alex Kammerling is optimistic about the new name. 'Apart from being able to build the brand internationally without fear of trademark infringement, the new brand name gives me the chance to tell a story about my ancestry and my family's involvement in the business,' he explains.

Kammerling's father is on the board of directors, his brother has helped with design, while his cousin is the brand's web developer. In addition, Kammerling's great grandfather, who worked as a confectioner specialising in herbal remedies, and who is referred to in the brand's story, is now referred to by the brand's name.

The product remains the same in every other way, a combination of 45 botanicals, including ginseng, echinacea and juniper, as well as manuka honey.

Read about the process of creating the brand, in Alex Kammerling's own words.
