Wine trade tragedy
On Saturday, Patrick Sandeman of wine merchant Lea and Sandeman died as a result of a skydiving accident.
Sandeman, 53 years old, started the wine company with Charles Lea in 1988. It remains independent, supplying wine around the country, with four wine shops and an online business.
An experienced skydiver, Sandeman collided with another skydiver 50 feet above the ground at the Sibson airfield, near Peterborough. He died on the scene, while the other diver was said to be in serious condition.
The UK wine trade paid tribute today, to a man who was admired, well-liked and respected, and one who made a significant contribution to the industry.
Sandeman is survived by his wife Katy, who also worked at the wine merchant, and by three children.
