Closing date: 15 Aug 2019
It's back again: Bacardi is now accepting entries for the 2020 edition of Legacy, its industry-favourite cocktail competition.
As in previous years, the comp tasks bartenders with crafting an original cocktail recipe that's slated to be a new classic – a drink that can be recreated in bars around the world for the rest of eternity, amen. The serve must contain no more than six ingredients and use Bacardi Rum as its spirit base. This year, bartenders can choose from Bacardi Carta Blanca, Carta Oro, Añejo Cuatro or Reserva Ocho.
But, as you probably know, creating the cocktail is just the first step. Entrants must also put together a marketing campaign for their drink to prove their ability to stand out from a crowd and demonstrate their commercial know-how.
After entries close on 15 August, selected competitors will face off in regional heats in London, Glasgow and Manchester, during which the UK finalists will be determined. These lucky bartenders will travel to New York and Puerto Rico to further develop their Legacy campaigns. Only one, however, will be selected to represent the UK at the global final in Miami next year.
While the format of the competition hasn't much changed, this year the brand has implemented an ambassador programme in which seven former Legacy finalists (including 2019 UK finalist Chelsie Bailey, pictured) will offer entrants feedback and advice on their cocktails prior to the shortlist selection.
