The 2020 Ruinart Sommelier Challenge is open for applicants

Closing date: 24 Feb 2020

Ruinart Sommelier Challenge will be back in London on Monday 24 February, giving participating somms a chance to win a trip to Champagne under the tutelage of Ruinart chef de caves Frédéric Panaïotis.

The competition will kick off with a 40-minute blind tasting, featuring four wines of any style and hailing from any region in the world. This will be followed by questions on pairing and serving temperature.

The day will continue with a technical lecture and tasting led by Panaïotis, before finishing with an informal lunch paired with Ruinart champagnes.

The winner will be selected on the day and invited to partake in an educational four-day trip in the company of 14 other national winners from countries around the globe. The trip will include a private tour of Ruinart's Domaine Les Crayères, a tasting session, a CIVC 'experimental vineyard tour' and more.

Last year’s winner Jitka Auermüllerová, formerly of 67 Pall Mall now head somm at Great Scotland Yard, told Imbibe that training one’s palate with consistent tasting was key to winning this competition.

Sommeliers interested in the 2020 Ruinart Sommelier Challenge can apply here.
