Bodegas Moraza began its history six generation ago in San Vicente de la Sonsierra (Rioja Alta), at the foot of the Cantabria and Toloño Mountains in north central Spain. Julia Moraza and her partner Patricio Brongo now run the estate with knowledge that has been passed down through the generations.
Growing Tempranillo, Viura, and Garnacha in this privileged region with its calcareous clay soils and specific microclimate is like second nature to Julia. All of their vineyards are owned by the family and worked by hand, most are certified organic, and those which aren’t yet certified are still farmed to protect biodiversity by avoiding herbicides, pesticides and chemical fertilizers. The resulting wines each have their own personalities and are fully expressive of their land, their climate, and their winemaking tradition.
Join Julia Moraza as she tells us the story of how she urged her father and uncle to convert their 18 hectares to organic farming and why she thinks Bodegas Moraza epitomises ‘modern’ Riojas.
