A doyen of the South African wine industry, Neil Ellis earned his stripes as head winemaker of Groot Constantia (now a national monument) before pioneering a négociant business in the early 1980’s. By seeking out parcels of interesting vines to make exceptional wines under his own name, Neil established a family enterprise with a local and international reputation for exceptional elegance and quality.
Mindful that no single vineyard region can satisfy the needs of all grape varieties, Neil set out to identify distinct terroir in which individual varieties will excel. Today he crafts a range of wines that celebrates the viticultural and geographical diversity of the Western Cape, from Darling in the west to Piekenierskloof in the north, and to Stellenbosch at the beating heart of the cape wine industry.
Today the journey of Neil Ellis Wines is not only about Neil Ellis. After 40 years of making wine, the next stage of the journey has begun with Neil’s son, Warren, sharing responsibilities as winemaker and viticulturist. Join Warren as he tastes through these terroir specific wines.
