Boozy festival Drink! Aberdeen comes back for a second year running with a programme packed with tastings, masterclasses, parties and workshops for both consumers and the trade from 23 to 29 May. Tuesday 24 May | Ysabel Regina Brandy – ‘Flash Infuser Workshop’

Ysabel Regina presents their flash-infuser workshop with Simon Toohey.  Simon is the former bar manager of Callooh Calley (London) and Lobo Plantation (Sydney), winning the UK heat of the 2012 '42Below' World Cup before finishing a very respectable 3rd with Team GB in the global final.

Wednesday 25 May | Union Hand-Roasted Coffee Jam

Ethical roasters Union Hand-Roasted takeover Rye & Soda for the day with a series of masterclasses, live music and of course damn fine coffee.  Know your aeropress from your chemex?  Know how to make the perfect espresso?  There are tastings and mini-masterclasses all day long, followed by live music in the evening from Leanne Smith (7pm), The Great Bear (8pm) and Steven Milne of The Little Kicks (9pm).  Check out the listings and buy tickets for the masterclasses from www.ticketsource.co.uk/drinkaberdeen.

Wednesday 25 May | Nikka Japanese Whisky Tasting

Japanese whisky can owe much of its rise to prominence thanks to Masataka Taketsuru, who journeyed to Scotland in 1918.  In 1934, Masataka established Nikka Whisky and his first distillery was built in Hokkaido and named Yoichi.  Join Speciality Brands' Whisky Ambassador Stefanie Holt as she takes you on a tutored tasting through the award-winning Nikka range of malt, grain and blended whiskies.

Thursday 26 May | Mezan Rum & Chocolate Tasting
The Tippling House, 4 Belmont Street

Selecting barrels from single distilleries across the Caribbean and Americas, the Cellar Master shows each rum in its natural form, allowing for comparison between regions and each distillery's unique production methods.  This is a rare opportunity to try rums that have not been altered in any way.  Paired to each rum will be a specially-created handmade chocolate.  Ticket price includes a welcome rum cocktail, plus 4 rums and chocolates to match.

Thursday 26 May | Capucana Cachaça Presents Marian Beke (The Gibson, London)

Capucana translates as 'sugarcane house' and is distilled in the Piracicaba region of Brazil.  Aged for 3 years, this is a citrusy style of Cachaça that is excellent as a base for cocktails.  Hosting a masterclass on Capucana cocktails is renowned bartender (and now bar owner) Marian Beke.  The venue will be open to the public from 7pm (free entry) for discounted Capucana cocktails and a Marian Beke guest bartender shift.

Friday 27 May | Old Pulteney Single Malt Presents 'Not Another Whisky Tasting'

When is a whisky tasting not a whisky tasting? Old Pulteney have the answer to that. Join ambassador Sian Buchan from The Drink Cabinet UK as she takes you through an interactive sensory tasting of one of the best coastal malts around.

Saturday 28 May | Styles of Sherry Tasting with Alliance Wine

Duncan Walker of Alliance Wine hosts this tutored session on the often-misunderstood category of sherry.  Originating from Jerez in Southern Spain, the varying styles of this fortified wine suit an eclectic range of foods such as shellfish, cured meats, cheese and desserts.

*Ticket price includes £5 discount on selected wines/sherries in bottle shop and entry to the ‘Wines of Spain’ tasting afterwards.

Saturday 28 May | Wines of Spain Tasting with Alliance Wine

Spain is producing fantastic wines at the moment that represent great value for money, proving that it it’s not just Rioja and Sherry that you should be drinking.  Duncan Walker of Alliance Wine hosts this epic tasting of 20+ wines from around the country, including whites and reds.  Please note that this is a casual tasting with a couple of sommeliers on hand to answer any questions about the wines or region.  Bottles will be available for retail/off-sales purchase.

Sunday 29 May | Cue BBQ & Buffalo Trace presents ‘The History of Bourbon’
Cue BBQ, 1 Alford Lane
3pm – 5pm | £20pp

Ian Melville of Hi Spirits walks you through the evolution of American whiskey, along the legendary Buffalo Trace (or trail).  The tasting of 5 bourbons from the Sazerac Co. range will be accompanied by some Cue BBQ snacks and followed by a quiz with (boozy) prizes.
