Fish Central, 149-155 Central Street, King Square, London, EC1V 8AP United Kingdom
Following on from the success last year of 'An Italian Wine Journey' (first edition) event, Beacon Italy and GS Wines are delighted to announce the second edition of this trade-only event to be held on Wednesday 4 July 2018 at Fish Central Restaurant between 10:30 am and 5:30 pm.
If you are fascinated by the range of flavours and variety of styles that can be produced by indigenous Italian grape varieties, then you will get a lot out of this event. In addition to well known varieties such as Sangiovese, Barbera and Nebbiolo, some superb wines made from little known grapes such as Vespaiolo, Pedevenda, Marzemina Bianca, Gruaja, Groppello, Riesling Italico, Uva Rara, Vite dei Fantini, Mornasca, Erbaluce, Vespolina will also feature.
All the companies represented here are relatively small and make very high quality wines: they respect the land and take pride in how they grow and harvest the grapes and make the wines. This is also a great opportunity to look at how these companies view their own terroir and to question if and to what extent their wines are 'terroir-driven'.
Two informal and informative masterclasses will be held on the day, which will look at some exceptional examples of Italian wines made from indigenous and International grape varieties.
Masterclass 1 "The allure of autochthonous (native) grapes of Italy"
Masterclass 2 "'Terroir-driven' - Where is terroir driving Italian Wines?"
Whilst tasting some of these delightful wines, hear how the wineries see the relationship between their terroir and the quality and taste of their wine. Does the future for Italian wine lie in a terroir-driven approach or in revisiting and exploiting indigenous grapes?
