On 12 February, Koshu of Japan returns for its ninth annual trade and press tasting at 67 Pall Mall, London.

Koshu of Japan (KOJ) is an organisation that was established in July 2009 by leading wine producers from the Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan’s premier wine-growing region.

Winemakers from nine leading wineries will be showcasing the new 2018 vintage of Koshu, in addition to a smaller selection of international grape varieties including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The tasting will include the newest member of the KOJ organisation, Manns Wines, who will be presenting its vintage in London for the first time.

The full list includes:
- Aruga Branca
- Grace Wine
- Haramo Wine
- Kurambon Wine
- Lumière - Manns Wines
- Château Mercian
- Soryu Winery
- Suntory’s Tomi No Oka Winery

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to taste the range of styles the Koshu grape can produce, including sparkling, sur lie and barrel-aged wines. The distinctly Japanese Koshu grape is the most important indigenous grape variety found in Japan, developed from grapes that travelled the Silk Road across Central Asia from the Caucasus to China and then to Japan, at a period estimated to be around a thousand years ago. The grapes have a pinkish-grey tinge and Koshu wines tend to be a pale, straw colour with soft, fruity aromas and overtones of citrus and peach.

Seafood and Japanese-inspired canapés will also be on offer at the tasting, for attendees to explore the food-matching potential of different styles of Koshu.
