New Zealand Winegrowers have announced the event programme for the 2020 Annual Tasting in London to be held at The Oxo2 on Wednesday 15th January.
In what is thought to be a first for a national trade tasting, a Buyers Breakfast briefing will be held with Maria Castroviejo, a senior analyst at Rabobank, who will provide a global overview of the New Zealand wine market. The briefing will address key issues that affect businesses today including supply and demand as well as projections for 2020.
During the tasting itself, there will be two masterclasses hosted by Rebecca Gibb MW:
New Zealand Coming of Age
New Zealand is a young wine-producing country and its early success has been built on drink young, fruity styles. However, vines and winemakers are maturing and time is showing that the country’s wines have the components to age gracefully. This masterclass is by invitation only.
Pinot Noir from Valley Floor to Mountain Slope
A masterclass investigating the marked impact of site on New Zealand Pinot Noir. This will provide an introduction to valley vs hillside Pinot Noir expressions.
In addition two self pour feature tables will showcase the growing diversity in New Zealand:
New Zealand Wine remains as popular as ever in the UK market and continues to grow with the latest Nielsen figures showing volume growth up 5.7% and value growth up 6.6% making it the 5th largest country of origin by value. This is driven by Sauvignon Blanc which holds a 49% share of the category in the UK Market.*
