The Head of Talent Engagement is the most senior operational leader within the region owning full accountability both the strategic planning and delivery. This is a significant people leadership role with 10 direct reports and total team of c.25 (delivering 2000+ hires per annum); leading a separate Managed Service Provider (MSP) for contingent hiring for UK & Ireland (delivering 1000+ hires per annum) and owning the stakeholder relationship management of key HR and business leaders. Because of the global nature of Talent Engagement, the Head of Talent Engagement is responsible as part of the global leadership team for co-developing the annual and longer term strategic planning for the function.

Europe region spans from Western Europe to Russia & Turkey and has the full spectrum of Diageo's workforce to resource: Europe marketing, digital & commercial organisation; Europe supply sites (c. 30 brewing, distilling, packaging to distribution sites); Diageo Business Service hub in Budapest (hosting our 10 back-office towers); our Europe and global functions (including Diageo's global HQ) and our commercial Global Travel business. The HoTE will own senior leader recruitment; the team will deliver lateral and early careers hires

Dimensions:

Financial

  • In conjunction with the relevant HR Director(s), the HoTE will be responsible for both the creation, management and reporting of the regional resourcing budget, ensuring the provision of value add service to markets whilst containing / reducing agency spend and other related costs

  • Responsible for continually evolving the resourcing service in the region and looking to leverage global scale and efficiencies with key suppliers

  • In conjunction with the Global TE Director, the HoTE will be responsible for the regional element of the staffing overheads and travel and entertainment budget. This will include the budget review and monthly reporting

  • Where responsible for a defined project(s) the HoTE will set and manage budget accordingly and be responsible for the relevant reporting

Market Environment/ Complexity

The HoTE will lead the Europe regional talent engagement team and will therefore be a key partner to the relevant regional, market and country HRDs. Partnership and stakeholder relationships are critical in markets and regions that need to change at pace and scale, so the individual will be a trusted advisor to the business on all matters relating to resourcing. The HoTE will supply key inputs into the regional Multi-Year Talent Plan process; they'll own the annual resource plan for Europe; thus, will need to possess the ability to influence and support through a highly consultative style

The HoTE plays a critical role with the Marketing & Commercial talent forums with the General Managers/HRDs across Europe - leading on executive search activity (internal and external) for our most critical hires

Leadership Responsibilities/ Key Stakeholders:

  • Leadership of the full regional across Europe, including people based across multiple locations (Russia, Turkey, Hungary, Germany, Spain, Ireland and UK)

  • Member of key talent forums/reviews as appropriate - leading the TE/executive search agenda as part of these forums with General Managers and HRDs. Monthly invitee to the Europe market HR leadership team

  • Support implementation and integration of new ways of working with the introduction of new technologies (Workday, Beamery, Assessment Automation, HireVue). Drive process optimization for internal and external processes and frameworks

  • Activate the Employer Brand in conjunction with the Global Employer Brand team focusing campaigns to critical hires and/or focus areas for diversity

  • Develop the diversity recruitment strategy for your region and embed into the multi-year talent plan

  • Lead the annual resource planning process - then track, reforecast and engage with the business to deliver on the plan YOY

  • Developing the resource strategy within the multi-year talent plan and owning the actions/outcomes aligning to our performance ambition

  • Working with Diageo's strategy sourcing team to focus their pipeline/search for talent for the most critical and senior leadership roles

  • Build strong relationships across multiple stakeholder groups, including different cultures / markets, internal & external.

  • Possess a strong ability to influence and align key decision makers

  • Have a deep personal accountability for great performance

  • Ability to translate the global TE strategy to one that drives resourcing performance in the region and understand where and when to intervene in areas that will drive greatest performance impact

  • Highly tuned external and internal radar - understanding of best practice in resourcing and development of appropriate network / contacts

  • Thinks into the future and brings this into the organisation to shape others ideas and actions

Purpose of Role

This person will be responsible and accountable for the end to end delivery of all aspects of both external and internal resourcing for a region / hub. They will own the connection between the Global TE ambition and purpose and ensure this is translated into an executable strategy.

Top Accountabilities

  • Own the end to end performance of the talent engagement function for their region and drive the performance possibility by:
  • Embedding the change to internal and external resourcing processes and developing TE capabilities/capacity to ensure we achieve our performance ambition

  • Lead the regional talent engagement organization, providing standard service in line with agreed KPIs and market needs, ensuring a great candidate and manager experience

  • Own all relevant global policies and tools that enable the resourcing process and search for ways to innovate and drive improvements. This includes controls requirements for resourcing activity

  • Drives best practice for the employee referral programme to enable a truly global program for internal engagement and external hiring

  • Support and provide input to all in-market campaigns to ensure the Strategic Sourcing team are being enabled to build robust talent pipelines (alignment to the Resourcing Plan)

  • Translate the global employer branding strategy and lead on the activation of employer brand activity in region to maximise outcomes for our performance ambition

  • Responsible for taking the lead on marketing/commercial senior leadership hiring for their region in conjunction with the global senior hiring team

  • Part of contract negotiations for key vendors impacting the global business as well as the strategic relationship management for key strategic partners such as our MSP (Guidant Global), LinkedIn, Chemistry, HireVue, Glassdoor as well as own/lead all contract negotiations with local media/supplier organisations supporting in-region activity

  • Provide business input for the talent engagement technology road map

and systems infrastructure. Support the implementation of new technologies into region, adapting changing ways of working, to enable the teams to achieve ambitious performance targets

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Degree / masters / equivalent educated

  • TE leadership/management experience from complex, fast-paced and high performing organisations

  • A commercially minded resourcing subject matter expert with significant experience of multi-market resourcing leadership experience, including developing markets, where relevant

  • Experience in building and activating an employer brand

  • An ability to work in the most confidential situations gaining trust through absolute discretion and respect from colleagues and stakeholders alike

  • Exceptional consultative skills and be able to use personal authenticity to influence action and change with key stakeholders

  • Ability to deploy programmes and processes remotely and through others

  • Strong analytical skills ensuring that data is used to create powerful business cases as well as track and draw insight to generate action plans to achieve objectives and course correct

  • Exceptional communications skills both written and verbal and be confident to present with impact and credibility

  • A continuous improvement mind-set, always evaluating programmes and tools and identifying areas for improvement.
