Famille Hugel yesterday announced the sudden death of Etienne Hugel. Etienne, aged 57 years old, died on Saturday 9 April.
He had worked in the family business since 1982. At the time of his death he was responsible for promoting the family's wines from Alsace in markets around the world - with exports to more than 100 countries. A statement from Famille Hugel said it was 'proud to be represented by a great number of Alsace wine lovers who were able to share many pleasurable and convivial moments with Etienne Hugel.'
Etienne's father André Hugel said: 'A visionary and a hard worker, my son Etienne travelled the world relentlessly, showing unparalleled people skills and infectious enthusiasm. Throughout his life he was able to communicate his passion, his professionalism and his personal values to all those with whom he worked.'
Hugel is survived by his wife Kaoru and his two children Charlotte and Jean-Frédéric.
