Next month, some of The Savoy's most beloved bartenders are coming together for one final shift to celebrate London’s cocktail culture
Declan McGurk, former director of bars for The Savoy – home to both the Beaufort Bar and the American Bar – will join former American Bar head bartenders Erik Lorincz and Maxim Schulte behind the bar at 12th Knot at Sea Containers London on 15 October for a one-off London Cocktail Week event called The Last Dance, organised by Global Bartending Talent Agency.
In July, McGurk and Schulte resigned from their posts at The Savoy, voicing concerns over pandemic-related redundancies within their bar team; Lorincz left The Savoy in 2018 to open his own venue, Kwant, in Mayfair. The Last Dance marks the first time all three bartenders have worked together behind the bar.
‘I am thrilled to be surrounded by so many friends and get back to doing what we do best,’ commented McGurk, who curated the evening’s cocktail menu, selecting signature drinks from his seven-year tenure at The Savoy.
Tickets are available for £50, with a reduced price of £25 per ticket for the trade. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to hospitality industry charity The Drinks Trust.
‘The pandemic has had an incomprehensible effect on London's bar community, and it shall be with great honour to pick up the tools again and help raise money for those worst affected,’ said McGurk.
Dan Dove, founder of Global Bartending Talent Agency, added: ‘It is a time of real uncertainty in the global hospitality industry. Many of my close friends have sadly lost their positions or their businesses due to the current climate. I have worked very closely with Declan and the amazing American Bar team for many years and it is an honour to give back to them for the service that they have given to us for so many years.’
