On the heels of his victory at Beefeater’s MIXLDN 7 competition, bartender Maxim Schulte has developed a new limited edition expression of Beefeater gin dubbed MIXLDN 7.
Schulte worked with Beefeater’s master distiller and industry veteran Desmond Payne MBE to craft an expression. The collaboration was part of his prize for winning the global competition, which was held in Shoreditch in February.
The bartender's gin adds Japanese sencha tea, lemon verbena and raspberry leaf to the classic Beefeater botanical base, which includes juniper, lemon peel, coriander seed, almond and angelica root, among others.
It’s been a big year for Schulte: after winning MIXLDN 7 in February representing Hong Kong, he packed his bags and moved to London to step into the role of head bartender at The Savoy’s American Bar, taking the reins from Erik Lorincz.
Schulte’s Beefeater expression will be available at the brand’s distillery in Kennington, as well as at American Bar.
‘The chance to work alongside somebody with as much experience and knowledge as Desmond Payne really was a dream come true,’ said Schulte.
‘I already had plenty of ideas for my own gin following MIXLDN, but none of this would have been possible without Desmond’s incredible sense of taste, knowledge of distillation, and impeccable attention to detail. It’s been a life-changing experience, and I can’t wait to see what people think when they get to try it!’
