Champagne Armand de Brignac (known as Ace of Spades) has added a Blanc de Blancs en Magnum to its prestige cuvée collection in the UK, priced at more than £1,000 a bottle.
The 100% Chardonnay champagne is a blend of the 2005, 2006 and 2008 vintages, and was disgorged on 25 May 2016, spending seven years on the lees and an additional year under cork.
Fewer than 1,000 magnums were bottled, with the grapes sourced from the Côte des Blancs, plus nearly half the blend coming from the Montagne de Reims.
‘We were thrilled with the cuvée’s development and made the decision to finally release these magnums, disgorging them in May 2016,’ said Armand de Brignac winemaker Emilien Boutillat.
‘They are tasting absolutely exceptionally at the moment, a perfect pairing for freshly shucked oysters on a warm spring afternoon.’
Armand de Brignac Blanc de Blancs is described as ‘a cuvée of great complexity and depth, with notes of baked pastry, pineapple, orange blossom and almond, with a delicate bead and lasting finish’.
It is said to be a good match for lightly grilled seafood, fresh oysters and light cheeses.
Armand de Brignac, owned by rapper superstar Jay Z and made by Champagne Cattier, is famed for its metallised silver and gold bottles, as well as its eye-watering prices.
