Launching en primeur to the UK market today, Armit wines has released Ornellaia 2014 'L'Essenza'.
A blend of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 20% Petit Verdot and 14% Cabernet Franc, the highly-anticipated release from the Italian producer comes from a vintage celebrated for its 'bright and vivacious character, silky and refined tannins and a softness and approachability', setting it apart from 2013.
For each year Ornellaia chooses one word to best describe the vintage, with the 2014 being dubbed ‘L’Essenza’.
'L’Essenza refers to what lies at the heart of the estate, Ornellaia’s Essence– its natural style, the exceptional quality of its terroir and the skill of those who work all year in the vineyards and winery to create it,' said Axel Heinz, estate director and winemaker at Ornellaia.
'Armit has been working as the exclusive importer of Ornellaia for over 20 years and I am delighted to have taken the helm for such an intriguing vintage,' added Kirsten Kilby, MD of Armit Wines. '2014 was clearly a challenging year in Bolgheri and it is testament to the incredible winemaking skills at Ornellaia that they have once again produced such an outstanding wine in the face of vintage variation.'
Armit wines will be hosting its annual Italian tasting on 6 March in central London. For more information and to buy tickets, visit the Armit Wines website.
