Big news as the five bartenders to make it to the UK final of next year’s Bacardi Legacy competition have been announced. William Campbell-Rowntree (London), Matthew Galloway (Edinburgh), Ed Belshaw (Nottingham), Alex Godfrey (Bristol) and Nicole Sykes (London) are now set to take on their rigorous Cocktail Campaigns, which will see them embark on seven challenges that will test their bartending skills.

Come 2020, the bartenders will travel to New York where they will experience some of the bars tended by previous Legacy winners before heading to Puerto Rico to visit the Bacardi distillery. The UK finalists will compete again in February 2020 with the chosen winner heading to Miami in May for the Global Final.

Want to know what got them over the finish line? Meet the bartenders – and their drinks – below.

The finalists

William Campbell-Rowntree, Artesian, London

Campbell-Rowntree took inspiration from the surfing culture of his hometown, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, to create his cocktail. ‘Changing Waves’ is an ode to his local surfing community and the concept of how small things can make big changes.

It’s Belshaw’s fourth year of entering his favourite competition Bacardi Legacy and this year he takes the title of UK wild card. ‘The Field Marshal’ is inspired by the history of the building in which he’s spent the last nine years honing his craft – World Service.
