Bancroft Wines announces new Terra Alta agency Herència Altés

02 June 2017

Bancroft Wines has announced its appointment as exclusive agents for leading Terra Alta producer Herència Altés.

Owned by husband and wife team Rafael de Haan and Nuria Altés, Herència Altés specialises in the Garnatxa grape, producing not only reds but fresh white wines. With three vineyards totalling 55ha, the estate's goal is to become a reference for Northern Spain as a premium Grenache producer.

The estate's new winery opened at the beginning of this year, running off-grid, completely on solar power, with its vineyards making the conversion to organic viticulture.

'We are delighted to be working with an esteemed producer who breaks the more traditional view of Spain,' said Bancroft Wines' managing director, Neil McAndrew. 'Herència Altés epitomises an innovation that we look for in our suppliers whilst drawing on their substantial heritage. They make a stunning new Spanish addition to our portfolio.'

'As a family-owned producer we are delighted to have found a family-owned distribution partner,' added co-winemaker and owner, Rafael De Haan. 'We see the UK as a very exciting market for Spain, particularly for emerging regions and believe Bancroft is the right partner for us sharing in this sentiment. We look forward to further introducing our wines to those who are intrigued by wines that seek to push-boundaries.'
