Bibendum, already one of the largest and most influential players in the UK on-trade, has taken on the agency for 13 new wineries, adding over 100 extra wines to its portfolio in the process.

The new arrivals – all from the Old World – include Weingut Johann Baptist Schäfer from the Nahe, Weingut Glatzer from Carnuntum, Château d’Arche from Sauternes and Puglia’s Masseria Li Veli.

The new arrivals mark a continued move towards smaller, often European, wine estates, which has been the company’s stated strategy for several years, and which helped it to win a record number of Gold Medals – and the Merchant of the Year Award at this year’s Sommelier Wine Awards competition.

Simon Jerrome, head of wine buying for Bibendum, said: ‘We’re very excited to be introducing some inspirational new producers to the portfolio, with a fantastic mix of new wines from Bordeaux and Languedoc, to Puglia and Rheinhessen.’

Most of the new wines will be on show at Bibendum’s Autumn tasting, which will take place at Phonica Records in London’s Soho on 12 September, from 14.00-18.00.
