The Bloomsbury Club Bar to host Madrid-based 1862 Dry Bar

11 April 2018

It's been almost a year since The Bloomsbury Club Bar was taken over as part of its Club Residencies programme, but it's finally back, hosting 1862 Dry Bar later this month.

Pitching up from 24 April for four days, 1862 Dry Bar hails from trendy area of Malasaña, Madrid, with awards such as Best Spanish Cocktail Bar at Tales of the Cocktail under its belt.

The menu will feature five of 1862's signature drinks, with the Apple Stormy – a rye whiskey-based drink with ginger – and Prescription – Punt e Mes, Amer Picon, Campari and lemon juice – seriously set to whet our whistle. Also on the books, the Pelo y Pluma –  Mahon Gin, fig liqueur, peaty whisky, honey syrup, lime juice, topped with mango lemonade; Quincey Roy – Highland Park 12, quince-infused palo cortado, orgeat and Pimento Dram and Oliete – Gin Mare, Banks 5 rum, lemon juice, rosemary syrup, olive bitters, egg white and club soda.

The residency menu will also showcase some BCB classics with a 1862 twist, including a Brandy Crusta – Brandy Torres Reserva, Brandy Torres 20, Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao, lemon juice, sugar and a dash of Angostura, and Adonis – Amontillado VORS, red vermouth, East India cream and orange bitters.

In true Madrid style Spanish music is set to fill the subterrenean bar, with cocktails served alongside Spanish classics such as jamón ibérico, tortilla Española, Spanish cheeses, patatas bravas, churros and Madrid delicacy the bocadillo de calamares (calamari roll). If that's not enough to make you book a night off, 1862 will also be bringing a selection of its most popular sherries to the residency.

'I am delighted to be continuing to host the world’s best bars as part our Club Residencies Project and look forward to joining forces with the incredibly talented team from 1862 Dry Bar,' said The Bloomsbury Club bar manager, Brian Calleja. 'Our customers love this unique offering and it’s great to collaborate with the best of best.'

1862 is the fourth bar behind the stick at The Bloomsbury Club, having previously hosted Athens' The Clumsies, New York's BlackTail and Sydney's The Baxter Inn. Last October, sister hotel the Westbury in Dublin hosted the Dead Rabbit at its Sidecar bar, making the Madrid-bar takeover the fifth in the Club Residencies programme.
