Botanic Lab launches on-trade exclusive drinks

Health drinks brand Botanic Lab has launched three new drinks under the name Botanics, to be rolled out exclusively to the on-trade.

These raw, cold-pressed and 'botanically enhanced' drinks use some of the ingredients and processes from the brand's original products, but under a new format that's more suited to the on-trade. Co-founder Rebekah Hall told Imbibe that the natural sugar content has been reduced, and more essential oils have been used in Botanics to help lower the drinks' cost to something more hospitality-friendly.

The drinks come in three flavour. Vitalise, with Sencha green tea, berries and Szechuan pepper tasted a bit too much like it's good for you; but we enjoyed the spicy kick and rich warmth of Fortify, with ginger, turmeric and fresh chilli. Invigorate was maybe our favourite, a bit sweeter although very much on the zesty side thanks to the use of raw yuzu and Siberian ginseng.

While they’ve been created for stand-alone drinking, there’s definitely potential for mixing – they screamed ‘tequila’ to us.

Hall said: 'The impending sugar tax has shone a spotlight on the soft drinks industry and its use of refined sugar and has opened the door for a new era of drinks that break the long established rules. We are delighted that the team at All Bar One has chosen Botanic Lab to introduce a new style of soft drink to their customers.'

The drinks are launching in All Bar One venues nationwide this summer, and will be available to the wider on-trade from autumn.
