Shipping container-based pop-up mall, Boxpark, has opened a new outlet in Croydon, its first dedicated entirely to food and drink venues.

Boxpark Croydon is home to 34 traders including MEATliquor, The Breakfast Club, CookDaily, Brgr&Beer, Wine & Deli, Yumn Brasserie and Cronx Brewery, alongside its own 300-cover bar, which is sponsored by Coors Light and will serve beers, ciders and cocktails.

The two-story development, located next to East Croydon station, will also play host to live music, and will be open seven days a week. It is part of regeneration efforts in the area.

Boxpark, which first opened in Shoreditch in 2011, has teamed up with Croydon Council, the Schroder UK Real Estate Fund and Stanhope PLC to develop and fund the project.

Roger Wade, Boxpark's creator and CEO, said: 'I’m delighted to announce the opening of Boxpark Croydon, our first food and drink only retail development. I was born and bred in South London, and it's great to build a world-class development in my local area. We are not building this in Croydon, we are building for Croydon.'

Croydon Council leader Tony Newman said: 'We’re delighted to be working with Boxpark to bring this exciting venture to Croydon. Its arrival is fantastic news for residents and is bringing with it new visitors, businesses and jobs. Boxpark Croydon is another important milestone for us in the regeneration of our borough – there’s so much happening here and we’ve got lots to be excited about.'

The space also features a 2,000 capacity events space, which played host to an opening ‘festival’ with sets from grime artists JME, Section Boyz, Ghetts and Novelist. Boxpark Croydon is open from 7am - 11pm Monday - Saturday and 8am - 10pm on Sundays.
