Brighton Gin celebrates Pride with limited-edition charity bottling

28 July 2017

In seven days’ time, Brighton and Hove will be a sea of rainbow as people travel from far and wide to stand with each other at the UK’s biggest Pride festival.

More than 200,000 people are expected to flock to Brighton Pride and only a fraction will be able to get their hands on the 400 limited-edition bottles of the city’s juniper namesake.

Wrapped in rainbow labels and with pink wax seals, a percentage of the sales from each bottle will be donated to The Rainbow Fund, the Brighton and Hove based grant-giving fund for local LGBT and HIV/AIDS organisations.

The Brighton Pride bottles will go on sale at independent shops across the city from 1 August. You’ll have to be quick though, as they are in very short supply. Quaff in Hove and Fiveways, Hisbe on London Road (which is on the Parade route), Ten Green Bottles on Jubilee Street and Twenty One Wines will all have bottles for sale.

‘Brighton Gin was created for good time boys and girls everywhere,’ Kathy Caton, founder, distiller and Out In Brighton presenter, said.

‘We wanted to celebrate the free-thinking, campaigning and hedonistic spirit of Brighton – values which have made the city the obvious setting for the UK’s biggest Pride festival. We’re so proud of that, and want to contribute to the essential work of the Rainbow Fund in supporting the city’s LGBTQ community and voluntary sector.’

Brighton Gin (40% abv) was founded by five gin-loving locals in 2014. It’s made from organic grain spirit, juniper, fresh orange and lime peel, locally-grown coriander seed and liver-friendly milk thistle. Locals often drink it as a Brighton Gin Rocktail – with tonic, ice and a chunk of Brighton rock.

Brighton and Hove Pride takes place from Friday 4 August to Sunday 6 August. The Parade leaves Hove Lawns at 11am on Saturday 5 August, ending at Preston Park where the Summer of Love festival is headlined by a performance by the Pet Shop Boys. Tickets and information available at Brighton-Pride.

RRP £40, 40% abv, stockists include Majestic Wines, Harvey Nichols, Fortnum & Mason, Master of Malt and most fine independents throughout Brighton & Hove
