After valiant efforts from four standout bartenders, it’s official: Bristol’s Chelsie Bailey has been named the Bacardi Legacy UK finalist for 2019.
Bailey currently works at the recently opened Filthy XIII in Bristol, and her CV includes roles at Mitchells & Butlers, The Rummer Hotel and Redlight. Her fellow competitors were Clare Morrow of Vice & Virtue in Leeds, Will Meredith of Dandelyan in London and Ken Langenfield of Monteiths in Edinburgh.
To snag UK finalist spot, Bailey impressed the judging panel with her cocktail Rum Reverie, a mix of Bacardi Reserva Ocho rum, cream sherry, apricot liqueur, lemon and orange zest. The serve was the result of her ‘military-style analysis’ of more than 150 Bacardi Legacy cocktails.
‘I’m absolutely honoured to have been selected to represent the UK in this year’s global Legacy final in Amsterdam,’ she said. ‘To even have made it to the UK final and compete against such accomplished bartenders felt like a huge achievement so I’m really excited to have the chance to take Rum Reverie all the way.’
Bailey, a first-time entrant to the competition, will go on to represent the UK at the Bacardi Legacy global final, to be held in Amsterdam on 14 May. There, she'll compete against 42 other finalists from around the world for the title of Bacardi Legacy champion.
