Bruichladdich’s three perfect 10s

28 December 2016

Ten is the magic number for Bruichladdich head distiller Adam Hannett, who recently dropped the second edition to a trio of much-loved 10 year olds from the distillery.

All three are based on 10yo whiskies matured in first-fill bourbon casks, but with a twist. The Laddie Ten, for example, is partly aged in sherry wood (50% abv, £50/70cl). Tempranillo casks are used for some of the Port Charlotte (50% abv, £55/70cl), with – you’ll never guess this one – former Grenache Blanc casks for the Octomore.

If we had to pick a favourite, it’s the Octomore, a real peat-head’s single malt that bursts out of the glass with smoke and ocean spray, but a candied almond and sweet floral note too, all leading to a bracing, brisk finish.
