The #SaveOurPubs campaign encourages pubgoers to write to some of the UK's largest pub companies in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic

Punch, Ei, Marstons, Greene King and Star Pubs & Bars are the companies being urged by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) to cancel rents for their tenants while the covid-19 crisis keeps pub doors closed.

The move comes as part of the ongoing discussion among pub support bodies around how tenants are being treated amid the global pandemic.

In response to the Pubs Code Adjudicator's call for pub companies to demonstrate how they are supporting tenants on 6 April, CAMRA national chairman, Nik Antona, made the following statement: 'This is a timely and encouraging intervention from the Pubs Code Adjudicator

'From the outset of the covid-19 crisis, CAMRA has called on pub companies to do the right thing and cancel rents... Pub companies pushed for the industry standard model that rents are based on turnover. As we have consistently pointed out, this means that closed pubs should not be having any rent levied on them at this time. Pubcos cannot have it both ways.'

As it stands, based on CAMRA's findings, Admiral Taverns has cancelled rent for its tenants; Ei Group, Punch, Greene King and Star Pubs & Bars have suspended rent collection but haven't cancelled rents; Marstons is suspending rent collection on a case-by-case basis.
