The latest wine to join Matthew Clark's Wines of Distinction portfolio is Champagne Doyard.
This follows strong growth in the company's volume sales of champagnes from the Wines of Distinction portfolio. Vintage rosé champagne is up 64%, while NV and vintage champagne are up 20% and 13% respectively.
Purchasing director Simon Jerrome said: 'We’re very excited to welcome Champagne Doyard to the fold particularly in the run up to Christmas. With the steady increase of premium on-trade customers we’ve witnessed over the last 12 months it’s great to be able to offer a variety of champagne styles from small grower houses to grandes marques. Restaurants consume over 25% of their annual champagne volume over the festive period and while prosecco has obviously been the success story of this year champagne is also in growth, and has a real opportunity to shine during the next few months.'
Winemaker Charles Doyard, whose champagne house dates back to the 17th century, added: 'It was important for our winery to work with a large and experienced importer to distribute our wines. With a portfolio increasingly packed with premium wines Matthew Clark is an important reference point for the British market.'
The range includes Cuvée Vendémiaire Premier Cru, single vineyard Clos de l'Abbaye 2010, rosé de saignée Oeil de Perdrix 2011 and La Libertine, a wine made to be as close as possible to those from champagne in the 17th century.
