Champagne Pol Roger releases Blanc de Blancs 2009

29 June 2017

Marking 60 years since the iconic house first created its cuvée, Champagne Pol Roger has announced the release of its Blanc de Blancs 2009.

The fruit comes exclusively from the Grand Cru villages in the Cote des Blancs of Oiry, Cramant, Avize, Oger and Chouilly.

Aged for seven years in Pol Roger’s cold, deep cellars before being disgorged with 7g/l dosage, the wine is then aged for a further six months in bottle.

The wine is pale yellow in colour with the brand describing bright aromas of citrus and yellow fruit, leading to a round and supple palate with a creamy mouthfeel, balanced acidity and a fresh, clean finish. Ready to drink now and over the next eight years, from 2017-2025.

The year 2009 can be categorised as a warm vintage in Champagne. The year 2009 has a lower acidity than 2008, but it is said to have excellent concentration and fruit definition, meaning that it may drink earlier than 2008.

'Champagne Pol Roger only produce wine to the most rigorous of standards. Composed of grapes cultivated in the best Grand Cru vineyards of the Cote des Blancs, made only in exceptional years and blended in a state-of-the-art cuverie, the Blanc de Blancs 2009 is testament to these demanding criteria,' said James Simpson MW, managing director of the Pol Roger portfolio.

'Elegant, with poise and a finesse typical of the 2009 vintage, the wine is underpinned by a remarkable freshness. With the Blanc de Blancs 2009 the house has once again illustrated that they understand vintage champagne; a complex and characterful wine with the capacity to age.'

RRP £75-£80
