Wines of Portugal has announced the winner of its exactly-as-exciting-as-it-sounds Wine Quest, that saw seven sommeliers take a Wine Academy Course, a trip to Portugal, plough through an exam, a blind tasting, a surprise decanting test, and present two wines to competition ambassadors Ronan Sayburn MS, Sarah Ahmed and Charles Metcalfe.
Congrats are in order for Christophe Richelet of Taberna do Mercado, who won £2,000, and runner-up Maggie Mak of Maze by Gordon Ramsay, who pocketed £500.
Sónia Vieira from Wines of Portugal said: ‘We were very impressed by the presentations and selection of wines by all the entrants. Congratulations to the winning sommeliers, who truly demonstrated the quality and variety of Portuguese wines. We’re delighted by the sommeliers’ enthusiasm about Portuguese wines, and their new-found knowledge of what Portugal has to offer.’
